Catalog candidates come from named CC0, public-domain, and CC-BY sources. Selekt verifies the upstream license and fingerprint-screens the audio against a database of more than 150 million commercial recordings. If a screen returns a match at any confidence level, the file is withheld. A match can still have an innocent explanation, but Selekt does not ask the user to carry that uncertainty.

Each eligible download includes a signed certificate recording the named source, exact license, screening result, required attribution, and a tamper-evident audit chain. That gives creators and collaborators evidence they can inspect independently instead of a label that merely says “royalty-free.” It reduces uncertainty; it is not a legal guarantee.
