About Our Saxophone Stems
Selekt saxophone stems are a category almost no other platform offers — isolated sax performances pulled from real jazz and blues recordings using a two-stage AI separation pipeline (Demucs 6-source + specialized UVR Wind models). From smoky tenor sax solos in 1930s ballads to wailing alto leads in big-band jazz, these are real sax performances captured with all their breath, vibrato, and reed character intact. Producers use them for lo-fi jazz beats, soulful hip-hop with horn samples, ambient and chillhop atmospheres, and sample-based productions where a single melodic horn line carries the track. The catalog draws from pre-1926 commercial recordings (now U.S. public domain), Library of Congress jazz collections, and CC0 contributions from modern saxophonists. Why is this rare elsewhere? Most sample platforms only separate vocals, drums, bass, and "other," lumping all wind and brass into a single bucket. Selekt invests in deeper separation specifically because producers consistently search for isolated horns and find nothing usable. Every stem ships with a license certificate showing source and license type. Selekt's free copyright-check tool can screen any audio against an industry-standard database of 100M+ commercial recordings.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you isolate saxophone from recordings?
A two-stage AI process: first Demucs 6-source separation isolates the broad "other" instruments from drums/bass/vocals, then a specialized UVR Wind model further isolates wind instruments from that bucket. Result: a usable sax stem with most of the band removed.
Why is this rare to find elsewhere?
Most sample platforms run only Demucs 4-source separation, which lumps all wind and brass into a generic "other" bucket. Selekt invests in deeper separation specifically for instruments producers actually search for — saxophone, trumpet, flute, organ.
Can you isolate sax separately from trumpet on a track with both?
Currently no — wind instruments are extracted as a group, so a track with both sax and trumpet will have them in the same stem. We are working on per-instrument wind separation in future pipeline updates as the underlying models improve.
What styles of sax are available?
Smooth tenor sax ballads, swing alto leads, gritty blues honking sax, free-jazz exploratory passages, and modern CC0 sax contributions across genres.
Are the sax stems clean enough for production use?
Yes. The two-stage separation produces stems clean enough to drop directly into a beat. Some bleed from other instruments may remain on busy tracks — for those cases, we recommend the looser, more atmospheric sax stems that work as texture layers rather than featured leads.
