A president’s voice is not automatically public domain

Federal copyright law excludes works prepared by U.S. government employees as part of their official duties, but that rule does not automatically cover every recording of a president. A broadcaster, campaign, record label, or private producer may have created the recording. Selekt therefore checks the exact archive item and file instead of inferring rights from the speaker’s office or from an archive’s access label.

What is searchable now

This page draws from Library of Congress and age-eligible exact-source recordings that pass the public reuse evidence gate plus the automated transcript gate. A human listen is not required. NARA presidential material remains quarantined because its current evidence does not establish the required exact-recording basis.
