- How does the chord progression search work?
- Every track in the Selekt catalog has been chord-mapped with a 7th-aware recognition model run on its melodic stems (drums and vocals excluded for accuracy). Your typed progression is reduced to a key-agnostic shape — chord qualities plus the interval between each chord — and matched against those maps. That means "Dm7 G7 Cmaj7" also finds the same progression played as Em7 A7 Dmaj7, or in any other key.
- What input formats can I type?
- Chord names with any common separator — "Am F C G", "Am7, D7, Gmaj7", "Cm7 → F7 → Bbmaj7" — or roman numerals like "ii-V-I" and "ii7 V7 Imaj7". Sevenths (maj7, m7, 7), diminished, augmented, and sus chords are all understood.
- Can I search with roman numerals?
- Yes — "ii-V-I", "ii7 V7 Imaj7", "I V vi IV" all work; they're interpreted as shapes and matched in every key.
- Does it understand 7th chords?
- Yes — maj7, m7, and dominant 7 are first-class, along with dim, aug, and sus. That's what separates a neo-soul Cmaj7–Am7 from a pop C–Am.
- Are the results cleared samples?
- Yes — search runs only against the cleared catalog: CC0 and public-domain tracks, each screened against 150M+ commercial recordings, each download backed by a signed license certificate.
- What is the difference between exact matches and same-shape matches?
- Exact matches play your chord qualities — a min7 is a min7. Same-shape matches follow the same root movement with simpler qualities (for example plain minor where you asked for m7). They are listed separately so you always know which you are hearing.
- Can I get the chords of my own song?

- Is this free?
- Searching is free. Downloading results works like any Selekt download — free trial or Early Access, with the signed certificate included.
- How accurate are the chord maps?
- Chords are detected by the model that won our published double evaluation (97.8% root accuracy and 88.9% exact-quality accuracy against authored ground truth), analyzing isolated melodic stems rather than full mixes. Detection is strong evidence, not perfection — very dense or ambiguous harmony can be simplified.
